Your choice in delivery

We respect your decisions and are highly trained in all types of deliveries. We encourage patients to speak with their doctor about birthing options early on in pregnancy. Also, we suggest new mothers consider their anesthesia preferences well in advance of their due date.

Family-centered maternity care

Our goal is to provide family-centered maternity care, which fosters the new bond and relationship between newborns and parents after labor and delivery. We practice rooming-in, which means newborns will stay in the same room as their mother during the hospital stay. However, our skilled maternity staff is always available to monitor and care for your newborn during a time when mom needs rest.

Additionally, we practice skin-to-skin contact to help babies and parents form healthy relationships and bonds.

From high-risk pregnancy care to tours and classes, our prenatal care services were designed with mom's needs in mind.

Maternity classes and tours

We provide all the resources you need to feel safe and comfortable during your delivery and confident when bringing your baby home. We offer childbirth education classes to prepare you and your growing family for the birth of your baby. Our class options include:

• Infant CPR — This class teaches expectant parents the basics of performing infant CPR. This class is not a certification course. The cost to participate is $10.
• Baby Care and Breastfeeding Class — This class combines teaching the basics of newborn care and breastfeeding. Topics discussed include burping, swaddling, bathing, and diapering. The cost to participate is $20.
• Childbirth Preparation Class — Topics discussed include labor, vaginal delivery, C-section delivery, what to pack in your hospital bag, breathing techniques, and labor interventions.

Register for a maternity tour

Pre-register online

We make it easy to pre-register online for delivery. By pre-registering, we can easily prepare for your arrival and save time by reducing administrative requirements on the day of your delivery. We ask that expectant mothers pre-register before the fifth month of pregnancy.

You can mail the completed registration form to us or register in person in the Admitting Office, Monday through Friday, from 7:00am to 4:30pm Once the pre-admission form is completed, you will be asked to sign various consent forms.

You are encouraged to notify your insurance carrier that you are pregnant. This allows you to familiarize yourself with what your plan covers long before your baby is due.

Packing for your hospital stay

We recommend expectant mothers to prepare an overnight bag in advance of their due date. Babies arrive in their own timetable, so having a bag prepared ahead of time can help reduce stress and ensure you have everything you want at the hospital for delivery.

Coming to the hospital for delivery

When you think you are in labor or your water breaks, call your obstetrician immediately. Your doctor will contact our hospital so we may begin preparing for your arrival and delivery.

When you arrive at Plantation General Hospital, you may enter through the main hospital entrance Monday through Friday from 6:00am to 8:00pm If you are arriving on the weekend or outside of these hours, please use our emergency room (ER) entrance.

The maternity services department is on the first floor. Upon your arrival, our staff will greet you and escort you to a suite where your labor status will be assessed. It is best to discuss with your obstetrician in advance whom you would like to be present during the delivery. During labor, other family and friends are welcome to wait in our waiting area.

Postpartum mother-baby care

We know how special those first few days with your newborn are, and we strive to provide the privacy and comfort you need to begin bonding. Our goal is to provide family-centered maternity and postpartum care, which fosters the new bond and relationship between newborns and parents after labor and delivery. We practice rooming-in, which means newborns will stay in the same room as their mother during the hospital stay. However, our skilled maternity staff is always available to monitor and care for your newborn when the mom needs rest.

We also offer breastfeeding support, and food and nutrition services to help you feel confident about your journey when you go home.

Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

For babies who need extra support or advanced care, we provide a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) featuring a family-style design that offers each patient a private room. Our NICU is staffed with highly trained neonatologists available at our facility 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our NICU includes 31 beds and is a National Gold Certified Safe Sleep Champion recognized by Cribs for Kids®.
